Description
We are delighted to offer you the hospitality of our beautiful Gite, a self-catering rental property, situated in the heart of the Lot-et-Garonne countryside of Southwest France, half way between Bordeaux and Toulouse and only a five minute drive to the nearest small Bastide town of Sainte Livrade-Sur-Lot, with its general stores, Boulangerie, chemist, tabac and supermarket.
A further ten minutes takes you to the larger Provincial Town of Villeneuve-Sur-Lot, which, as its name suggests, straddles the river Lot and offers facilities including banks, restaurants, cafés, shopping etc, etc.
Valmar is set in three quarters of an acre of private grounds, which afford stunning views over nearby vineyards and rolling hills.
Guests staying at this Holiday Rental Property benefit from exclusive use of our 10m x 5m private swimming pool, which is equipped with sun loungers, parasols, tables and chairs.
LayoutGround Floor
Our beautiful Gite comprises an open plan “Chez de Jardin “, which includes a well equipped kitchen, with electric oven and hob, refrigerator, washing machine and dishwasher. There are lots of cooking utensils, so whether it's a quick snack you wish to prepare or something more Gourmet, you should have all you need at your disposal. The work surfaces are of solid oak and the kitchen also incorporates a dining area, with a dining table that comfortably seats six guests.
The lounge has a sofa which pulls out into a comfortable double bed for guests five and six (particular fun for those little ones !). There is also a portable single bed for guests five or six, should they wish to sleep seperately.
The lounge is also equipped with Satellite TV, which has all the main English channels and lots of free-view channels too.
A DVD player and a selection of books and board games to suit all ages, are also at your disposal, should you fancy a night in. The lounge has double French doors, which lead out onto the covered terrace.
From the entrance lobby there is a wooden staircase which leads to the first floor bedrooms and bathrooms.
The Bedrooms
There are two comfortable bedrooms at Valmar Gite, which each sleep two guests. So your Holiday Accommodation is ideal for four people, but there is room for two other guests to sleep on the sofa bed, as described above, or for guests 5 and 6 to sleep seperately, one on the portable bed, which is also comfortable.
Master Bedroom
Suptuously decorated in the style of the French King Louis XIV, with double bed, “Manoir” wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside cabinets.
Table lamps either side of the bed allow cosy night-time reading.
The bedroom overlooks the swimming pool and has stunning views across the open countryside beyond, fantastic to wake up to in the mornings.
Twin Bedroom
Also decorated in the style of the French king, there are two single beds, ”Manoir” wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside cabinets with lamps..
The bedroom has an en suite bathroom which comprises large shower cubicle, WC, wash-basin and sanitary unit with shaving point.
It too overlooks the swimming pool and has equally beautiful views across the fields and vineyards beyond.
Bed linen and wash towels are provided, but guests are requested to bring their own pool towels
Main Bathroom
Equipped with solid marble topped washbasin unit, wc and walk-in shower with screen.
Outside
Leaving the house by either the double French doors of the lounge or kitchen, takes you to the large covered terrace. There is a dining suite for “al-fresco” dining, which again accommodates six guests and a large fully equipped barbeque, for less formal occasions.
The Terrace overlooks the pool area, which is approached by descending a flight of easy steps.
Standing on the terrace gives you an elevated view, beyond the pool, of the gorgeous countryside that surrounds you, which in July/August are often full of sunflowers that provide a magnificent display of vibrant yellow. Take a look at the photo gallery to get some kind of idea, but really you need to be there to experience it. All of our guests comment on just how wonderful the setting is !
The superb 10m x 5m swimming pool was completed to a high standard in 2007 and is for your own private use for the duration of your stay, no sharing with adjoining properties, or the owners. The pool area is equipped with Sunloungers, parasol, table and chairs.
At the end of the pool "plage" there is a further table and chairs, where you can sit and relax in the evening, with a glass of your favourite tipple in hand. Then at dusk, listen out for the frogs in the distance, calling to each other in symphony, as the sun slowly sinks behind the hills beyond.... Bliss !

About the Area Villeneuve-sur-lot, Monpazier, Monflanquin...the countryside here in South-West France, around your self-catering holiday accommodation and other properties, is a land of sunflowers and medieval towns, of caves and rivers, of vineyards and plum orchards, of castles and quiet lost villages, of sunshine and tradition, and of miles of beautiful unspoilt scenery.
The “departement” of Lot et Garonne is part of the Aquitaine region and is named after its two principal rivers which merge within its boundaries and has plenty to offer the visitor. It is still quite a well kept secret and much of its beautiful countryside remains unspoilt. The area is littered with no less than 42 historic “Bastide” towns, in addition to many beautiful villages, most of which have regular market days.
The area is noted for its famous “Pruneaux d’Agen (prunes), which bear little resemblance to what one might find in an English pudding.
Whichever direction you travel to “Valmar” from, Vineyard after vineyard will indicate the importance of wine growing in the region. The Buzet, Marmandais and Côtes de Duras are well known, as well as the neighbouring Bordeaux varieties. There are a number of local vineyards, where the owners will be only too happy to give you a guided tour of their 'Domaine' and allow you to sample the fruits of their labour!
So if you wish to spend your time soaking up all that is typically France, then this is a perfect location in which to do this. Valmar is ideally situated to explore all that the region has to offer. Of course, if you just wish to 'get away from it all' your Holiday Accommodation is situated in a very tranquil setting, allowing you to just completely relax. The choice is yours !
